Warts - one definition, many varieties

A wart is the general term for a papular skin lesion that has a broad base and a rough, rough surface. Usually painless emergence of this structure is generally caused by infection with human papilloma virus ( human papilloma virus - HPV ), which can occur in up to 10% of the population. A typical viral wart is commonly referred to as a wart.

A completely different type of wart is a seborrheic wart . It is common in the elderly - it is convex, has a wrinkled "brain-shaped" surface and is usually brown in color.

So how can you have seborrhoeic warts removed ?

Laser therapy, cryotherapy, electrocoagulation or traditional methods, i.e. surgical excision, will be helpful. Unlike warts, a seborrheic wart has nothing to do with the HPV virus - it arises spontaneously and is absolutely not infectious.

Viral warts - classification

Viral warts are not only warts on the feet - other types of these lesions are also distinguished:

  • normal warts - these are lumps with an uneven surface, formed from the epidermis, having the color of the skin; They are found mainly on the fingers, around the nails, and sometimes under the nail plate

  • flat warts - slightly convex, with a smooth surface and a few millimeters in size; are common in young people (therefore called 'juvenile warts')

  • genital warts - pedunculated, "cauliflower" lumps on the genitals; HPV-6 and HPV-11 viruses causing these changes are sexually transmitted

There are actually several ways to deal with troublesome viral warts - here are the most popular of them:

  • plasma or laser therapy, especially with the use of a CO2 laser - compared to cryotherapy, this method requires fewer repetitions and, above all, is completely painless, because it is performed under local anesthesia

  • cryotherapy, i.e. freezing warts in a dermatologist's office or at home thanks to wart applicators available without a prescription in pharmacies; this procedure requires several repetitions and may be slightly painful, because very low temperature is used for freezing (liquid nitrogen is used for this)

  • surgical removal of warts by excision or curettage

  • chemical methods - nipple cream usually containing weak acids (salicylic acid, lactic acid) when applied, it kind of “burns” the lesions; wart ointment in combination with soaking the affected area in warm water effectively fights warts

  • home remedies for warts - warts on the foot can also be combated in a traditional way with the use of yellow-orange juice from celandine stems (a plant common on forest edges) - it acts as a natural remedy for warts : it contains enzymes that soften the epidermis and inhibit cell growth; early warts on the feet also eliminate the juice of " dandelion ", or dandelion

The wart treatment turns out to be sometimes unnecessary, because occasionally the wart on the foot disappears by itself without leaving a trace.

However, if warts occur in children, it is best to consult a doctor before starting self-therapy.

A wart on a child's foot may be caused by contact with the virus by walking barefoot in public places (swimming pool, school cloakroom) - then, first of all, you should persuade the child to stop walking without shoes.

Whenever we are not sure what exactly appeared on our skin, it is worth consulting an experienced dermatologist - he will certainly recognize the change correctly and implement appropriate treatment.
